The shortest of the four gospels, Mark is packed full of action, with miracle after miracle, parable after parable, and shows the strength, wisdom and power of God on earth in the person of Jesus. Confronted by a world of evil – evil spirits, evil teachers, evil sickness – Jesus shows again and again that he has come to preach God’s kingdom. This is a kingdom that stands against the sinful worldly kingdom. It is a kingdom that cannot be defeated and a kingdom that will be for all who put their trust in Him for forgiveness and mercy.
Mark is confronting as it is challenging. And as we read it, we must ask the question: “If Jesus is Lord of all, if he is King, if he is powerful over this world and his Kingdom will reign forever, what does that mean for me both now and in eternity?”
Reading the gospel of Mark is not enough. Pray and respond to every passage and be challenged to be corrected in our lives where needed, as we wait for the return of Jesus.
