Last week, we explored Ephesians 2:1–10 and the radical unity Christ creates. Paul uses specific language to show that whether "we" (Jews) or "you" (Gentiles), everyone was once equally lost—"dead in sin" and "children of wrath." However, through God’s rich mercy, these two distinct groups have been brought together as one people under the headship of Jesus.
This unity is a result of pure grace (charis). In the ancient world, a gift established a bond; receiving favor from a patron meant responding with loyalty and honor. We didn’t earn our seat at God’s table, but because He has gifted us life, we now belong to Him.
So, what should we do this week?
- Embrace Our Shared Identity: Reject "us vs. them" mentalities. In Christ, cultural and social barriers are dismantled.
- Walk in Good Works: We are "created in Christ Jesus for good works" (v10). Our obedience isn't a way to get saved, but a grateful response to the God who already saved us.
Don't sit on the fence - live this week in a way that honors the Father!
Don't forget to pick up your Ephesians Bible Studies from the foyer - or you can download them here - a very special thanks to Greg Burke for putting the studies together.
