How do a people naturally wired for self-interest, fear, and unbelief learn to truly flourish in the presence of a holy God?
This teaching term, we embark on an in-depth study through the book of Deuteronomy. I've titled the series, 'The Beautiful Life: Flourishing in the Presence of God'.
Deuteronomy is often unfairly dismissed as a dry collection of ancient legal codes. In reality, it is a passionate, grace-saturated farewell address from an old pastor to a fragile nation standing on the edge of their inheritance.
Furthermore, the way that the rest of the Old Testament and New Testament touch on different parts of the book again show its importance.
Throughout this series, we will wrestle with proper, meaty issues that lie at the heart of Christian discipleship. This week alone we are looking at:
- How does God’s unmerited grace sustain a people whose obedience continually falters?
- Why does even the best human leadership fall short?
If you haven't already started reading through Deuteronomy, you may find this reading guide useful. Otherwise, download the Bible Study Series and take it along to your Growth Group.
I look forward to journeying though Deuteronomy with you this term.
