Weekly Update - 20 July 2026

July 30, 2026

As we step into our new series in Deuteronomy, we arrive to Deuteronomy 4 - which holds out a captivating vision of the beautiful life with God (4:5-8). But what makes life genuinely beautiful? The text points us to a foundational truth: it begins not with human striving, but with listening ... 'follow them so that you may live' (4:1b).

At Horeb, Israel saw no physical form - there was only a fire and a voice (4:12). YHWH is uniquely the God who speaks (4:33, 36). His revealed word - His righteous statutes - is not a heavy burden, but a grace-filled template for life that reflects His wisdom to a watching world (4:6-8).

In Deuteronomy, to encounter God is to hear Him speak (4:10). Yet the challenge before us today is sharp and uncompromising: will we truly listen and obey? Will we follow God at His word? In a noisy world chasing silent, powerless idols (4:16-19, 28), the God who saved us still speaks today (4:32-35). True, flourishing life is found in wholehearted obedience to His living voice (4:1, 40)
