We Australians pride ourselves on a quiet sort of self-reliance. We map out our careers, eye off the property market, secure a comfortable lifestyle, and then ask God to sign off on the blueprint.
But Ephesians 3:20-21 completely upends this. Paul praises the God "who is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine, according to his power that is at work within us."
We love the promise, but there’s a catch. This power isn’t a utility to underwrite our private ambitions or fund our bucket lists. God’s "immeasurably more" is geared toward His grand vision for the universe, not our self-made agendas.
On a mundane Monday, this looks less like spectacular success and more like quiet grit. It’s the supernatural patience when the kids are driving you up the wall, contentment when envy bites when scrolling through online shopping, and the stamina to trust Him through a brutal medical diagnosis.
God’s power is real, but it is given to reshape our inner character to match His eternal purposes. This week, let’s stop treating God as a consultant for our plans, and start relying on Him for His.
