As we have begun Lent, it is a time for us to reflection on the seriousness of sin and God's gospel answer that came through the sacrifice of his Son, our Lord Jesus Christ. And as we journey to Easter, Christians traditionally have used the season to fast. Again, the fasting is meant to highlight and refocus our relationship and dependence upon God.
But Joel 2:13 reminds up not to get so distracted by the activity that we miss the purpose:
“Even now,” declares the LORD, “return to me with all your heart, with fasting and weeping and mourning.” Rend your heart and not your garments. Return to the LORD your God, for he is gracious and compassionate, slow to anger and abounding in love, and he relents from sending calamity.
This Lent, if God is interested more in having our hearts, how will you highlight and refocus your dependence on God?
Why not pull back on some activities and turn your time and attention to prayer? You could join the Missionary Prayer Meeting meetings at 9am this Saturday (21st Feb) in the Clanalpine Meeting Room. Or you could pray with along with the others in our church by using the Church Prayer Schedule. I look forward to seeing you on Sunday as we continue our journey through Acts!
Yours in Christ,
Eric
