#167. Psalm 33. What if...?

Bruce Stanley

August 21, 2023

What if...?

I'm going to the beach this weekend.

But what if it rains?

What if my car breaks down?

What if the trains are cancelled?

What if I'm sick?

What if I get there and the beach is gone???

There are so many "what ifs" in this world.

God has a plan for me. But what if...

Psalm 33:10-11

10The Lord foils the plans of the nations; he thwarts the purposes of the peoples. 11But the plans of the Lord stand firm forever, the purposes of his heart through all generations.

Psalm 33 tells us that God's plans always win. He is the creator after all!

Psalm 33:6

6By the word of the Lord the heavens were made, their starry host by the breath of his mouth.

So of course his plans will win! But it can be challenging to believe this. It can be challenging to trust that God is always on top of things and knows what is happening with each of us. But he does and he sees each one of us:

Psalm 33:13-15

13From heaven the Lord looks down and sees all mankind; 14from his dwelling place he watches all who live on earth— 15he who forms the hearts of all, who considers everything they do.

He sees us all, he knows us all, and his plans for us all are good. If our hope is in the Lord, we will not be disappointed. His love is unfailing and he looks after those who fear him, who honour him:

Psalm 33:18

18 But the eyes of the Lord are on those who fear him,on those whose hope is in his unfailing love,

We all make plans each day, but we cannot even trust those plans we make ourselves! How much more can we trust in the plans of the one who made the heavens, the one who looks upon all of us and knows each of us, the one who is powerful over this earth that he made?

Prayer

Heavenly Father,

Help me to trust in your plans. Give me confidence that they will never fail. Remind me that you alone are powerful over the plans of this world and that you love me, you know me, and you want only what is best for me.

Amen.
